Origins of culture aren’t always understood.

In Australian parlance to be told a Furphy is to be told a great yarn that probably isn’t true.

All too often we use sayings, knowing the meaning but not knowing it’s origin. Telling a Furphy is a term still used today that originates in WWI but few know of its origins.
